Shannon Brook Farm was established on April Fool’s Day, 2011 in the Finger Lakes region of New York State. We are located on the west side of Seneca Lake approximately 5 miles northwest of the Village of Watkins Glen.
We are a Certified-Organic farm raising free-range broiler chickens, Pekin duck, chicken eggs and pastured pork. Our organic certification is through NOFA-NY. Our lamb is grass-fed on organic pastures.
Historically the farm raised sheep on pasture and in the woods for over 100 years. We are pleased to continue the tradition and currently have 65 acres of pasture and 60 acres of mixed hardwood and coniferous forest.
Prior to starting the farm we worked in New York City. Walter lived there for over 30 years while Shannon was there for 12 years. We were inspired to leave the City by the thought of returning to more rural environs where we would have the opportunity to restore a dilapidated farm, to live with nature and animals and be able develop our own ideas of sustainable farming while creating our own jobs.
Although neither of us had farming backgrounds we used the skills we did have to develop Shannon Brook Farm, which continues to develop and grow.
